KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Don’t be alarmed if you see smoke rising from the wooded area behind the fire station on Hastings Avenue later this month—it’s all part of a planned training drill.

The New Hampshire Fire Academy will be in Keene on Saturday, May 31, to conduct live fire training exercises designed to give firefighters real-world experience with controlled brush fires. The training will take place behind the West Keene fire station at 110 Hastings Ave.

These exercises are part of a scheduled program overseen by certified state fire instructors. While area residents may notice smoke and small visible flames during the day, officials say there is no danger to the public. Fire crews and equipment will be on-site throughout the event to ensure safety and protect nearby properties.

The city emphasized that all necessary permits have been secured and that safety protocols will be strictly followed. The goal of the training is to better prepare firefighters for real emergency situations.
