KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) After three decades of providing peer-led mental health support for adults in the Monadnock Region, Monadnock Peer Support (MPS) is turning its focus to the next generation.
As part of its 30th anniversary, the Keene-based nonprofit has launched “30 for 30,” a community-wide fundraising campaign with a clear goal: raise $30,000 by encouraging 1,000 people to each donate $30. The funds will help MPS pilot new programs specifically for youth—a population that the organization says urgently needs support but currently falls outside its service contract.
“For 30 years, Monadnock Peer Support has been a place where people could come together, talk openly about their struggles, and support each other as equals,” said Interim Executive Director Eli Rivera. “Now we want to make sure young people have access to that same kind of connection and hope.”
MPS was founded in 1995 as a grassroots alternative to traditional mental health care. Its model is built on the belief that people who have experienced mental health challenges themselves can offer uniquely valuable support to others facing similar issues. Unlike clinical treatment, peer support is based on mutual understanding and shared lived experience.
Program Director Stacy Wilbur said the new campaign is a call to action for the community. “Our services have always been open to adults, but young people need safe, supportive spaces too,” she said. “This campaign is about creating those spaces—run by peers, for peers—so no young person has to feel alone.”
MPS offers a range of free services to adults across New Hampshire, including support groups, hot meals, transportation, field trips, residential support, and access to a fitness center. While those services will continue, funds from the “30 for 30” campaign will be dedicated to developing a new youth-centered component.
The campaign runs through the end of 2025, with donations being accepted online at www.MonadnockPSA.org/30for30 or by calling 352-5093.
