MARLBOROUGH, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) The Smoking Trout, a Main Street restaurant known for its rustic tavern-style atmosphere, comfort food and a focus on local suppliers, will close its doors after service on Sunday.
The business, which opened in May 2022, announced the closure Friday, citing rising costs of food, goods and services that have made operations unsustainable.
Located on Route 101, in the space Piedra Fina previously occupied, The Smoking Trout has been a culinary homecoming for owner and head chef Charlie Lavery, a Peterborough native who spent more than two decades in high-end kitchens across New England. The restaurant’s name was inspired by Lavery’s love of fly-fishing.
In a Facebook post on the restaurant’s page, owners urged patrons to visit:
“We would love to see you all over these next couple of days, the message reads. “Please come give our staff the appreciation they deserve, and be sure to support them wherever they go. Come enjoy your favorite dish and share a seat with your friends.
For those of you who know us best, you know where to find us: the river is calling.”
The Smoking Trout will be open Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
