PETERBOROUGH, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A hiker was rescued from Miller State Park on Sunday afternoon after falling ill while hiking with her husband on the Wapack Trail.
Emergency crews were called just before 3 p.m. when 48-year-old Chrystel Pit, of Concord, MA, was unable to continue her hike. Peterborough, Jaffrey, and Temple firefighters responded alongside a New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officer.
Rescuers located Pit about 100 yards from the Auto Road, but the steep, rocky ground made the effort more difficult. Once medical personnel reached her, she was given fluids and able to walk back down to the road with help.
Peterborough Ambulance then transported her to Monadnock Community Hospital for further care.
Officials reminded hikers to prepare for emergencies on the trail and encouraged the purchase of a Hike Safe card, which helps fund search and rescue operations. More safety tips and gear lists are available at hikesafe.com.
