HINSDALE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow)  A hiker died Thursday afternoon after suffering a medical emergency while returning from the Kilburn Trail in Hinsdale, according to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.

Fish and Game said in a release that the incident occurred around noon on October 9, when New Hampshire State Police Dispatch received a call reporting that a hiker had collapsed near the trailhead on Chesterfield Road. A hiking companion immediately began performing lifesaving measures until emergency responders arrived.

Rescue personnel from the Hinsdale, Chesterfield, and Spofford fire departments, as well as Rescue Inc., Hinsdale Police, and Fish and Game conservation officers, responded to the scene. Despite their efforts, the hiker was pronounced dead.

Authorities said the individual was a New Hampshire resident, but their identity is being withheld pending family notification.
