CHESTERFIELD, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Conservation officers came to the aid of a Connecticut man Thursday evening after his all-terrain vehicle became disabled deep within Pisgah State Park.

According to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, officers were notified around 5:30 p.m. on October 9 that a solo ATV operator had broken down in a remote area of the park. The man, identified as 68-year-old Angelo Mejias of Uncasville, CT, was stranded on the Reservoir Trail near North Round Pond—a section of the park known for its rugged terrain and limited access.

With daylight fading and temperatures dropping, conservation officers responded from the Horseshoe Road trailhead and reached Mejias using ATVs. They were able to escort him roughly two miles back to the trailhead without further incident.

Fish and Game officials said Mejias had been well-prepared for a day’s ride in Pisgah, which helped ensure his safety while waiting for help.

The department reminds riders to plan ahead and carry necessary gear when exploring New Hampshire’s trail systems. More information about safe ATV riding practices can be found at www.ride.nh.gov.
