SWANZEY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Eversource will begin a multiyear project Monday, Oct. 20 to replace aging wooden transmission structures in Swanzey and nearby communities, part of a regional effort to modernize the electric grid and strengthen reliability.

According to Eversource, the work will roll out in three phases and is expected to continue through the summer of 2027. Company officials emphasized that customers will not experience power interruptions during the construction period.

Crews will work within existing power line corridors and can be expected to operate heavy machinery in the area. Workers will carry proper identification, the company said, and will make efforts to minimize disturbances to neighboring properties.

Where Work Will Occur

  • Phase 1: South of C L Lane Road and north of Old Homestead Highway in Swanzey; north of Krif Road in Keene.

  • Phase 2: Between West Hill Road in Troy and Flat Roof Mill Road in Swanzey; northwest of Flat Roof Mill Road and southeast of Whitcomb Road in Swanzey; north of Route 12 in Keene.

  • Phase 3: Southeast of Flat Roof Mill Road, south of Causeway Road, and west of Airport Road in Swanzey; south of Krif Road in Keene.

What Residents Can Expect

Before installation begins, crews will conduct survey digging and other preparatory work. Construction activity may include grading, mowing or vegetation removal, adding gravel to access roads, and using timber mats in wetland areas.

The new transmission structures will be similar in height to the existing ones and positioned nearby. Crews will also remove an unused communication wire along the route between Monadnock Street in Troy and Emerald Street in Keene, using either bucket trucks or off-road vehicles.

Restoration will occur after each phase is completed, Eversource said, with full project restoration expected by summer 2027. Schedules may shift depending on weather or site conditions.
