KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) The City of Keene has renewed its Community Power program through December 2027, locking in new electricity supply rates and expanding its commitment to renewable energy.
Launched in 2023, the program allows Keene residents and businesses to collectively purchase electricity at competitive rates while choosing from several renewable energy options. Under the renewed contract, Direct Energy will continue as the city’s supplier, and all rates will remain fixed for two years starting with December 2025 meter readings.
The city’s default plan — now called Keene Standard — will include 50 percent renewable energy, up from 10 percent under the previous agreement. Other choices include Keene Basic, which provides the lowest rate without additional renewable energy; Keene 10, offering 10% more renewable energy than the basic plan; and Keene 100, which supplies electricity entirely from renewable sources.
Current program participants do not need to take any action to receive the new pricing — they will automatically be transitioned to the updated rates beginning with their December 2025 meter reading. Bills reflecting the change will arrive in January 2026.
Keene Community Power pricing applies only to the supply portion of an electricity bill; Eversource will continue to handle delivery charges, billing, and maintenance services. Participants in the Electric Assistance Program will continue to receive their existing benefits.
Those who wish to return to Eversource’s basic service can do so without penalty.
