KEENE, N.H (MyKeeneNow) – Area fire crews are currently on scene battling structure fire in Keene.
The fire was reported at 20 Elliot Street around 8:15 Thursday morning as a second alarm. It was later upgraded to a third, then fourth alarm and according to scanner reports a mayday was transmitted for a trapped firefighter, which has since been cleared.
Students at nearby Wheelock Elementary School are being evacuated and taken to Keene Middle School where they will be picked up after lunch.
Keene Police say Main Street is closed from the Route 101 intersection to the Marlborough/Winchester Street roundabout. Drivers and community members should avoid the area.
The Keene Public Works Department warned that some users may notice discolored water due to the large amount of water being used to battle the blaze.
