HINSDALE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A Massachusetts man was flown to a Worcester hospital Tuesday after his utility terrain vehicle flipped on a popular Hinsdale trail system, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.
Emergency crews were dispatched shortly before noon to the Mount Pisgah ATV trails, where first responders from Hinsdale police and fire, Rescue Inc., and a Fish and Game conservation officer found 60-year-old Thomas Norwood of Sunderland, Mass., injured after a rollover crash.
Investigators say Norwood had been riding alone and performing tight maneuvers on the trail when his UTV slid over a berm and overturned. He was not wearing a helmet or seat belt at the time, officials said. His injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening.
A Life Flight helicopter from UMass Memorial Medical Center landed on the trail around 12:45 p.m. and transported Norwood to Worcester a short time later. Fish and Game officials said a violation-level charge of operating to endanger is pending.
The agency urged riders to exercise caution on off-highway recreational vehicle trails and to always use protective gear, especially helmets and seat belts.
