HINSDALE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) The Hinsdale School District is pushing back against what it says is misleading and damaging discussion on social media following an alleged bullying incident at the district’s middle/high school, while reaffirming its opposition to bullying and racist behavior.
In a statement released this week, Superintendent David Ryan said online posts about the situation have included misinformation and unverified opinions, creating what he described as unsafe conditions for those involved — particularly students. He said the district acknowledges that harm has occurred and urged members of the community to stop the online “finger-pointing” before the situation escalates further.
Ryan emphasized that the district’s goal remains fostering a safe, inclusive environment where all students feel a sense of belonging. He said behaviors such as bullying and racist remarks are not tolerated and are addressed through both disciplinary and restorative measures. The district, he added, continues to work on guiding student conversations and conduct toward greater tolerance and understanding.
The statement also addressed concerns raised by a small group of students who recently expressed frustration with how school administrators were reported to have handled a case involving bullying and racial insults. Ryan praised the students for speaking up and showing a desire to be part of the solution, while noting that their concerns were raised without access to all of the facts.
“As adults, we owe them the responsibility of continuing this work with them,” Ryan said, adding that the district must also protect the dignity and legal rights of everyone involved. For that reason, he said, the school cannot share details related to student behavior or disciplinary actions due to confidentiality requirements.
Ryan said the district condemns bullying and racist behavior and believes the broader school community shares that view. He closed by inviting those who want to help improve the school climate to work with the district as it continues efforts to prevent future harm and strengthen a culture of respect.
