KEENE, NH – As work on the Winchester Street Reconstruction Project continues, crews are ready to begin moving towards the next phase.

Beginning on Monday the Island Street Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic, and access to Pearl Street from Winchester Street will be restricted as well.

According to a project update from the Keene Public Works Department, the initial closure is needed to provide adequate space and safety to install underground utilities at the Winchester/Pearl/Island Street intersection.

A number of signed detours will be in place for drivers to find their way to Winchester, West, and Pearl Streets. Maps are available on the project website for advanced guidance as well.

Pedestrian access over the bridge will initially be maintained, but that will be closed off in early-mid May when bridge removal will begin.

The Island Street Bridge will be closed to all vehicles and pedestrians for the entirety of the removal and replacement process. The expected re-opening date is mid-December 2023.

More information is available on the project website. Anyone with questions can contact Public Works at 603-352-6550.
