Howard Thomas Jameson, 93, of Keene, passed away peacefully while resting on Tuesday, June 18, at Spring Village at Summerhill in Peterborough.
He was born to the late Marion A. (Thomas) and George H. Jameson, on December 14, 1930, in Manchester, VT. He was educated at Granville High School in Granville, N.Y.
When he was 17 years old, Howard left school to join his older brother, Jimmy, and enlisted in the United States Army on July 22, 1948, requiring his mother’s signature due to his age. He served his country with honor and was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), Korean Service Medal, W/3 Bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, Presidential Unit Citation (ROK), and the United Nations Service Medal. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sargent T1 on May 29, 1952.
Howard enjoyed his career as a Commercial Lines Insurance Agent, working initially for the National Grange Mutual in Rutland, VT, transferring to their Keene office in 1960. He continued his career working for the Mason Insurance Agency in Keene, later becoming Masiello Insurance Agency. He had a strong work ethic and found great joy during his retirement from insurance business, working as a shuttle driver for local Ford dealerships, including David Ford, Rountree, and Monadnock Ford.
Along with working, he was an avid golfer and member of the Keene Country Club, loved reading, and watching old western movies. Howard was a member of the United Church of Christ, the Order of Free and Accepted Masons and Bektash Shriners, Keene Elk’s, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and served on the Board of Advisors for the Order of Rainbow for Girls in Keene.
He was forever committed to his family and is survived by his wife, Sandra B. Jameson of Peterborough; his children, Laurie Jameson of Marlborough, Catherine Jameson Ruffle of Spofford, and their mother, Luella Hawkins of Fl.; his grandchildren, Jessica Shannon and her husband, Eric of Peterborough, Brooke Ruffle of Portsmouth, Samuel Ruffle and his wife, Toshiko of Spofford, Daniel Rabin of California, Katherine Rabin of New York, and Margaret Rabin of Oregon, and great grandchildren Evelyn Dreher and Wilbur Ruffle. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, stepchildren and step-grandchildren. Howard was predeceased by his parents; his daughter, Karen Jameson Rabin; and his siblings, brothers James and John, and sisters Jane and Ann-Marie.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 12, at the Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel, 44 Maple Ave., Keene. A graveside service will follow in the family lot at Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Avenue in Keene.
