KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) The skeletal remains discovered last month near the American Legion property on Court Street in Keene have been identified as Brenda Kenney, who had been reported missing nearly four years ago, according to the Keene Police Department.

Police said the identification was made through the work of the New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner after remains were recovered on April 17 during an investigation in the area.

Kenney was 48 years old at the time of her death and had been reported missing to Keene police in July 2022.

Authorities said the cause and manner of death remain under review as additional studies continue through the medical examiner’s office. Investigators noted that the death is not considered suspicious at this time.

The remains were initially found after police responded to a report of possible human remains near the American Legion building on Court Street. Detectives secured the scene and transferred the remains to the medical examiner for analysis and identification.

Keene police also acknowledged assistance from multiple agencies and organizations involved in the investigation and recovery effort, including New Hampshire Fish and Game Department conservation officers, New Hampshire State Police, the New England K-9 Search and Rescue, and the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team.
