KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) As dangerously high temperatures continue across the Monadnock Region, a local volunteer group is stepping in to help people beat the heat.

Keene Mutual Aid will operate free hydration stations in Railroad Square today, Thursday, July 2, and tomorrow, Friday, July 3, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., or until supplies run out. The effort is open to anyone needing relief from the hot weather.

Volunteers will hand out bottled water, ice, electrolyte drinks and sunscreen. The organization will also accept monetary and supply donations to support its community outreach efforts.

The group is encouraging anyone who cannot make it to the station but needs drinking water to get in touch.

“It will be dangerously hot out,” Keene Mutual Aid said in a social media post. “So if you need water brought to where you are, reach out and we will do our best to help.”

According to the National Weather Service, an extreme heat warning remains in effect for the region through 8 p.m. Friday. Heat index values, or the “feels-like” temperature, could reach as high as 110 degrees during the afternoon.
