KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – MJD and Company Hair Design will host its annual Cancer Cut-a-thon on Saturday, October 10, raising money to support cancer care and patient assistance services in the Monadnock region.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at MJD and will offer $40 haircuts for both men and women. The service includes a shampoo, haircut and blow-dry, and customers will receive a $10 gift certificate. Appointments can be made by calling 603-358-3100 or by stopping by the salon.

All proceeds from the haircuts and retail sales will go toward cancer care. Donations are also welcome from people who are unable to participate in the Cancer Cut-a-thon but still want to contribute.

Jen Doyle of Cheshire Medical Center said the money raised helps provide direct assistance to cancer patients, including gas cards and other support for people facing the expenses associated with treatment.

Funds can also support the purchase of equipment and the expansion of surgical services through Cheshire Medical Center’s current capital campaign. The goal is to make more cancer treatment and procedures available locally, reducing the need for patients and their caregivers to travel outside the area for care.

The Cancer Cut-a-thon is expected to serve approximately 80 customers, with six volunteers helping throughout the day. Men’s appointments take about 30 minutes, while women’s appointments are expected to take approximately 45 minutes.

For Mary Jane Doody of MJD and Company Hair Design, the event has been a longstanding tradition. She has been involved with the Cancer Cut-a-thon for more than 20 years and said the cause is especially meaningful because cancer has affected both her family and her own life.

Planning for the annual fundraiser begins during the summer, with volunteers working for months to prepare for the event.

The Cancer Cut-a-thon will take place October 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at MJD and Company Hair Design. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 603-358-3100 or by visiting the salon.
