KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Drivers traveling through downtown Keene should expect lane restrictions, temporary traffic changes and limited parking around Central Square this week as crews continue work on the city’s water infrastructure.
Casella Construction Inc. is scheduled to work through Friday, Oct. 16, installing a new water main along the south side of Central Square toward Roxbury Street and continuing south to Main Street. Crews also will connect buildings on the east side of the square to the new water service.
Traffic moving north and south through Central Square will be limited to one travel lane in each direction. Temporary lane shifts and possible closures may affect intersections with Roxbury, Washington and Court streets as workers prepare to connect the new water main to the existing system.
Depending on construction needs, motorists may be directed along alternate routes using School Street, Union Street and Gilbo Avenue.
Parking will also be restricted during construction hours. Several spaces on both the east and west sides of Central Square will be unavailable beginning at 7 a.m. each day until work is finished. Spaces marked with orange cones or barriers are designated no-parking areas.
Other public parking lots within walking distance of downtown businesses will remain available. Drivers can find lot locations and additional information through the city’s Parking Services webpage.
Crews may continue working past 5 p.m. to take advantage of daylight and favorable weather conditions. Traffic access and parking are expected to be restored at the end of each workday.
Construction schedules and traffic patterns may change as the project advances. Drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to proceed cautiously and watch for updated traffic controls throughout the work area.
Questions about the project can be directed to downtown project ombudsman George Downing at 603-757-2105 or gdowning@keenenh.gov.
