WINCHESTER, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – The Winchester School District is set to host a community forum this week to gather feedback from the community regarding its options for high schools.
In March of this year the Keene School District announced its plans to terminate the current tuition contract with Winchester when it expires at the end of the 2026-27 school year.
According to a news release from the Keene School District at the time, the Winchester School District had asked to modify the agreement twice over the last decade to not require all of their students to be sent to Keene High School for their 9-12 school years. The agreement stipulates that Winchester must send all of its pupils to Keene, and Keene will accept the students.
Based on those requests, the Keene district decided that it is unable to provide Winchester the flexibility it is asking for while maintaining the same expectations they have with other districts that tuition their students to Keene.
The decision to terminate did not prevent the two districts from reaching a different agreement, but it appears they were unable to do so.
The Winchester School Board’s high-school search committee will host the public forum at the Winchester Town Hall at 1 Richmond Road at 6 pm Wednesday night. The purpose of the forum is to gather feedback from the community, particularly from students, on what the district’s anchor high school should be.
Both the Hinsdale and Monadnock Regional School Districts have expressed their willingness to take in Winchester students.
“All community members, and especially students, are invited to attend the forum and share their input on what they would like to see in their next high school experience,” a notice on the Winchester School District’s website says.
Hinsdale Superintendent David Ryan currently serves as the Interim Superintendent for the Winchester School District as well.
For those who can’t make it in person the forum will also be livestreamed at https://www.townhallstreams.com/stream.php?location_id=161&id=62394
