KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) The Monadnock Region is home to two of 10 new properties listed on the New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places by The New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources.
One of the newly-listed sites is the Ashuelot Manufacturing Company Boarding House in Winchester, which showcases a unique architectural blend, according to a news release from the organization.

Initially constructed around 1825 in a style that merges late Federal and early Greek Revival elements, the building was expanded around 1868, reflecting a Greek Revival design with touches of Italianate influence. This brick structure housed numerous mill workers over the decades, including Irish, English, French-Canadian, and Polish immigrants, while being owned by several mill proprietors for nearly a hundred years.
Another addition to the Register is the First Universalist Church in Jaffrey, a prominent Greek Revival-style building that has been central to the town’s Factory Village/East Jaffrey area since it was dedicated in 1845. Initially called the “Union Church,” it was given to the East Jaffrey Women’s Club in 1939, who then renamed it the Cutler Memorial Building.
Community members interested in nominating a historic property can do so by completing an individual inventory form available through the New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources. Listing a property on the Register is an honor and does not add any restrictions for property owners. More details can be found at nhdhr.dncr.nh.gov.
Since its founding in 1974, the New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources, a part of the NH Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, has worked to preserve and highlight the state’s unique historical sites through various educational and preservation-focused initiatives.
