PROVIDENCE, R.I. (MyKeeneNow) Four Keene State College student-athletes, were honored by the Little East Conference for their achievements accomplished for the week of 1/20-1/26
Men’s Basketball
Senior guard Octavio Brito (Lincoln, R.I.) was named the Player of the Week for the sixth time this season, from his performance in the Owls’ three victories over the week. Across the three games, Brito averaged 23.3 points per game, on 28-for-53 (52.8%) shooting from the field. Brito also recorded 12.3 rebounds per game, with two double doubles, to go with four assists per game, two blocks per game, and 1.67 steals per game.
Brito and the Owls travel to Plymouth State University on Wednesday, January 29, at 7:00 PM for their next game.
Women’s Swimming & Diving
Sophomore Tallulah Going (Danbury, Conn.) was named the LEC Rookie Swimmer of the Week after placing first in four events in the Owls’ double-dual meet wins over Plymouth State University (207-49) and Rhode Island College (206-55). In her two individual event wins, Going won the 50 back in 31.13, and the 50 free in 26.66. In the Owls first of two relay events won, Going anchored the 200 medley relay with a 26.12 split, the fastest time by an anchor in the event on the day by over a second, as the team finished in 2:03.20. In the 200 free relay, going swam the fastest 50m free split out of all events on the women’s side on the day, as her time of 25.99 rounded out the Owls’ team time of 1:49.07 for her fourth event win on the day.
Going and the Owls are back in action in two weeks, as they will travel to the Boston Sports Institute for the Little East Conference Championships, over four days, spanning Thursday, February 13 through Sunday, February 16.
Men’s Track & Field
Junior Aidan Law (Higganum, CT) was named the LEC Track Athlete of the Week from his record-breaking performance at the University of Massachusetts Lowell on Friday. In the 400 meter dash, Law set the school record with a time of 49.80, beating the previous mark of 50.1, set by Eric Dietz (2015) and Clinton Mungeta (2019). Law placed 19th out of the 48 competitors in the event, as he was second among Division III entrants, behind only 15th-place Kristian Praizner of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (49.34).
Law and the Owls return to action on Saturday, February 1, at 10:00 AM at the Plymouth State Invitational II.
Women’s Track & Field
Freshman Drea Defreitas (Lowell, Mass.) was named the LEC Rookie Field Athlete of the Week from her performance at the Husky Invitational at the University of Southern Maine on Saturday. Defreitas won the long jump at USM with a mark of 5.06 meters in the event, .02 meters ahead of second place.
Defreitas and the Owls return to action on Saturday, February 1, at 10:00 AM at the Plymouth State Invitational II.
