KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Downtown Keene transformed into a winter wonderland yesterday as the 22nd annual Ice and Snow Festival took center stage. Organized by the Keene Downtown Group, this beloved event drew thousands of visitors for a day filled with icy artistry, family fun, and seasonal delights.

Twelve talented ice carvers from across the region worked their magic, each sculpting 600 pounds of ice into breathtaking masterpieces. Armed with chisels, chainsaws, and blow torches, they created dazzling sculptures that were later illuminated by powerful 1,000-watt LED bulbs for visitors to view after dark. By 2 p.m., the finished pieces were ready to be judged by both the public and professional judges. First place went to Michael Legassey 0f Winchendon, Mass. for his sculpture, “Tiki Mask.”

The below-freezing temperatures were perfect for keeping these icy works of art intact all day long.

Beyond the ice carving, the festival was packed with free activities for all ages. Kids loved the children’s train ride, pony rides, and circus arts performances, while families enjoyed free cartoons at the Colonial Theater. Attendees indulged in campfire s’mores, sugar on snow, and offerings from local food trucks.
