JAFFREY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) An early morning fire Tuesday caused significant damage to Red’s, an oil delivery and auto repair business on Route 202, but firefighters were able to prevent it from spreading further.

The fire broke out around 4:20 a.m. on the second floor at the rear of the building, prompting a second alarm. Despite the presence of petroleum-based products on-site, officials said the fire did not pose a major hazard, as fuel tanks at the location are underground. Power to the building was shut off immediately, and no environmental damage was reported.

Firefighters from multiple departments responded, battling icy conditions as they worked to control the flames. It took about an hour to bring the fire under control, and no injuries were reported.

The business, owned by brothers John and Matthew Peard, has been a fixture in Jaffrey since their grandfather opened it in 1955. The second floor of the building housed business records, but customers were assured that deliveries would continue as scheduled.

In a social media post Tuesday afternoon, Red’s announced it had temporarily relocated operations next door to the old fire station at 8 River St. The business confirmed that phones and internet were restored and that all scheduled oil deliveries would proceed on time. However, the auto repair shop and full-service gas pumps will remain closed until further notice.

Self-serve diesel and off-road diesel pumps, as well as the heavy truck shop, remain open.

Route 202 was shut down between Route 124 and School Street for several hours following the fire. The scene was cleared around 6:30 a.m., but the road remained closed until about 10:30 a.m.

Fire officials said the cause of the fire is not considered suspicious and remains under investigation.
