ROCKINGHAM, VT (MyKeeneNow) A crash on Interstate 91 Saturday morning turned deadly after a passenger vehicle slammed into the back of a fuel tanker, leaving one person dead and a child in critical condition.
The collision occurred just before 9:45 a.m. in the northbound lanes near mile marker 33, according to the Vermont State Police. Investigators say the passenger vehicle, carrying four people, rear-ended the tanker under slick road conditions. One occupant was pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile passenger sustained life-threatening injuries and was flown to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire. Two others—a second child and an adult—were transported by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the fuel tanker was unhurt.
Authorities shut down the northbound lanes following the crash, leading to traffic delays as investigators worked at the scene. Police also responded to several other minor crashes and vehicles sliding off the road in the area, though none resulted in serious injuries.
Vermont State Police are leading the investigation, with assistance from the Department of Motor Vehicles Enforcement and Safety Division. Officials have not yet released the names of those involved.
Drivers are urged to use caution as road conditions remain hazardous. Further details are expected as the investigation continues.
