KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) The City of Keene released a notice over the weekend that due to very low humidity and high wind gust prediction for Tuesday, the fire danger for the area remains high and all open burning is suspended.
The National Weather Service (NWS) extended a red flag warning for southern New Hampshire in late October, including the Monadnock Region, citing an ongoing high risk of wildfires due to continued dry conditions, low humidity (20-25%), and forecasted wind gusts of up to 35 mph.
This kept firefighters across the region busy responding to multiple smoke investigations and brush fires and local fire departments to pause issuing new burn permits while urging residents to avoid outdoor burning.
With the fire risk high, residents are once again reminded to consult with local fire officials, comply with regulations, not leave an open fire unattended and always extinguish campfires completely before leaving.
The Keene Fire Department has asked residents to check their website for updates on the suspension and to contact the on-duty fire captain at 357-9861 with any questions or concerns.
