KEENE, NH – The President and CEO of Cheshire Medical Center is set to retire this spring.
In a letter to patients Dr. Don Caruso, MD, MPH said he plans to retire in May 2023. He has served in various roles in the organization for the last three decades, including as President and CEO of the hospital for the last seven years.
“For over three decades I’ve dedicated myself to the care and wellbeing of our staff, patients, and the Monadnock Region’s Community,” he said in the letter. “I will be leaving Cheshire with a sense of pride for its future.”
Cheshire Medical is currently working towards launching its new Family Medicine Residency program, which, pending approval, will open at some point this year.
“None of this growth for Cheshire happens without a dedicated staff surrounding good leaders, and we’re fortunate to have both leading us into a bright future,” he continues in the letter.
“On behalf of Cheshire Medical Center, I want to thank Don Caruso for his years of service to this organization and our patients,” said Susan Abert, chairperson of Cheshire’s Board of Trustees in a news release. “It isn’t often that you find a CEO who also maintains time in his schedule to see patients, but he has balanced both. His leadership, supported by a truly dedicated staff, has led to Cheshire’s growth, and we’ve been so fortunate to have both leading us into a bright future.”
Caruso said he’s looking forward to retirement where he hopes to have more time to play golf, go fishing with his sons, and travel.
“It has been a fulfilling career, and I appreciate everyone who has joined me along the way.”
Cheshire’s Board of Trustees is forming a search committee to name a successor before Caruso’s departure so he can assist with the transition. Those who were family medicine patients of Caruso were informed in the letter of who their new primary care provider would be.
