KEENE, NH – The Monadnock Region’s Clarence DeMar Marathon has been recognized as the top marathon in New Hampshire.

RaceRaves, the leading online race finder, announced the winners of its 2023 Runners Choice: Best Marathons in the U.S. poll this week, where the top marathon in each state was crowned based on votes from runners across the country, along with ratings and reviews.

According to a news release, common themes among the winning events include exceptional production and race-day support, strong community involvement, and a marathon course that showcases the beauty and character of the local region.

“I am thrilled and deeply honored that our marathon has been crowned the best in the state according to the RaceRaves Poll. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the incredible efforts of our dedicated team, passionate participants, and the unwavering support of our community,” Race Director Alan Stroshine said. “As the primary fundraiser for the Keene Elm City Rotary Club, we are humbled by this recognition and will continue striving to deliver an unparalleled experience that celebrates the spirit of endurance and achievement.”

The Clarence DeMar Marathon was established in 1978 to honor former Keene resident and seven-time Boston Marathon champion Clarence DeMar. The full marathon starts in Gilsum and the half starts at Surry Mtn. Beach, with the finish line set up on Appian Way on the Keene State College campus.

Race day is set for September 24th. The annual Pasta Dinner is set for 5 pm on September 23rd, and will feature 2017 race champion David Kilgore as the keynote speaker.

Registration is open now for this year’s full and half marathon, along with the Kid’s and Super Senior races. For more information, visit ClarenceDeMar.com.
