NH DHHS is changing how it reports cases in schools. The state is transitioning to a “more sustainable surveillance approach for schools to report COVID-19 cases.” Both K-12 schools and colleges and universities will begin reporting the aggregate number of COVID-19 infections on a weekly basis. The first weekly report will be available the week of February 14th.

Keene City Council has voted to continue with the mask ordinance for the time being. Council voted not to rescind the ordinance just yet, and discussed whether to continue in the so-called “educational phase” rather than moving on to enforcement. Councilors are hoping cases will drop to the point that they feel comfortable dropping the ordinance next month.

He said the number of people hospitalized with the virus has plateaued, with 19 inpatients this week, five of those in the ICU, and three of those on a ventilator. He said they’ve also instituted a centralized approach for delivering monoclonal antibody treatment and an oral medication to help treat the virus. He said there are limited quantities available and access to the treatments are dependent on co-morbidities and meeting dispensing criteria.

Cheshire Medical continues to encourage folks to practice mitigation methods such as masking, and to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Things may be returning to the new normal at Maplewood Nursing Home. After several weeks of a bit of a spike in COVID-19 cases in staff and residents, things have begun to quiet down at the facility and staff members that were out are returning to work. According to a news release Monday, one support worker who worked at the end of last week took an at home COVID test and came up positive, but other than that County Administrator Chris Coates says more and more staff are returning from either illness or household impacts, which he is hoping is an indicator that the variant may have peaked in the nursing home’s community.

Coates also said that the facility has several boxes of the blue surgical masks that are set to expire in March, so those are being kept at the main entrance for folks to take home with them.
