KEENE, NH – A Hancock man is facing charges after police say he brought a gun into the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough.
According to a news release from Peterborough Police, around 1:00 Thursday afternoon they received a report of a man with a handgun inside the hospital. Within a couple of minutes two officers arrived and located Gabriel Sawich, 28, of Hancock New Hampshire in the waiting room. The release says when the officers confronted Sawich, he had his hand on the gun and began yelling at the officers, and refused to let go or surrender the firearm.
In an attempt to disarm Sawich, a short struggle ensued and an officer deployed a taser. Sawich was taken into custody then walked to the emergency room for medical evaluation, which is standard practice after a taser deployment.
Sawich is charged with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. He was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in the 8th Circuit – District Division – Jaffrey Court on February 28th.
Police noted that during this incident no shots were fired and no one was injured. The incident was under control in just under an hour.
