KEENE, NH – Police say no one was injured when a gun accidentally went off in a Marlborough apartment building, sending the bullet through the wall and into the apartment next door.
According to a news release from the Marlborough Police Department, officers were dispatched to the apartment building on Frost Street around 7:15 Wednesday evening on a 911 report that a bullet had come through the apartment wall.
In an on-scene investigation police discovered that the neighbor, only identified as an 82-year-old Marlborough man, had been handling a semi-automatic handgun when one round was fired through the wall and into the adjoining apartment.
The bullet was lodged in a TV set, and narrowly missed the occupants which included four children all under the age of five, and several adults.
The neighbor who fired the shot was arrested then released on personal recognizance bail. He’s facing one felony count of reckless conduct and will appear in court at a later date.
Police say the man is cooperating with the investigation and there’s no reason to believe there is any ongoing threat to the public. Anyone with additional information should contact Officer Nickerson at 603-876-3311.
