KEENE, NH – Vermont State Police have identified the victims in Friday’s fatal Amtrak crash.
The driver, Craig Hudson, 53, of Brattleboro VT was taken to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
His passenger, Shenandoah Gilbert, 47, of Vernon VT is being treated for her injuries at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
The crash remains under investigation. More details below.

KEENE, NH – Authorities in Vermont say one person died and another was injured after an Amtrak passenger train and a vehicle collided in Vernon Friday evening.
According to a news release from Vermont State Police, the accident was reported just after 5 pm Friday near the intersection of Route 142 and Bemis Road where Troopers learned the crash involved an Amtrak train and a 2002 Toyota Rav4.
The male driver of the vehicle was taken to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and pronounced deceased. A female passenger was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center where she is being treated for her injuries. Her current condition is unknown.
The identity of both the driver and occupant have been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
No train passengers were injured in the crash and the train continued on its route after a delay. A section of Route 142 in the area was closed for some time during the investigation, conducted by the Vermont State Police Crash Reconstruction Team with remote assistance from Amtrak Police. They were assisted by Vermont AOT, New England Central Railroad, the Amtrak Road Foreman, and the Vernon Fire Department.
