KEENE, NH – While the unofficial start to Summer comes this weekend in the form of Memorial Day celebrations and cook outs, the official start is now just under a month away, and WKBK staff Meteorologist Pat Pagano says it’ll start out hot and sticky.

In his spring forecast, issued back in March, Pagano predicted a showery season through June. He predicted the first few days of June will see some strong or severe thunderstorms, followed by rain and sun the first week, showers and nice conditions the second, more showers and thunderstorms the third week, and typical summer weather for the last week.

The 2023 Summer Solstice comes during that third week on Wednesday June 21st and 10:57 AM Eastern Time.

Overall, Pagano is predicting July, August, and September will be hot and humid, sprinkled with some storms here and there with breaks of cooler weather especially in September. He does say, however, it could go the other way.

“There is a chance that the northeast could wind up cooler and wetter, but odds are not strongly in our favor,” Pagano said.

Pagano’s July forecast says it’ll be hot the first week with some thunderstorms, staying hot and turning humid the second week, and into the third and fourth weeks with more storms mixed in.

Looking ahead to August, Pagano is predicting continued hot and humid conditions for the first week with thunderstorms. There will be some relief during week two with Pagano predicting that it’ll be a touch less humid to start the week, then it’ll pick back up again into the third week where he says it’ll be very warm with showers, getting less humid by the end of the week. He says the fourth week will be unsettled with showers and storms, and the last few days will bring a break to warm and less humid.

Finally, into September, Pagano says it’ll be sticky week one with showers and storms, but by the second week it’ll be a bit cooler with storms followed by rain. In week three he says there will be showers, with a warning that says, “watch the Atlantic,” likely referring to a chance of Tropical Storms or a Hurricane. And in the final week, he’s predicting a wet and cool spell.

According to Pat’s Spring and Summer forecasts, folks in the Monadnock Region should be in for hot and possibly humid celebrations on Memorial Day and the Fourth of July, and a wet and sticky Labor Day.
