KEENE, NH – The Keene Public Works Department is gearing up for the first week of the annual Spring Water System Flushing, beginning this coming Sunday April 23rd.
The program is designed to clean mineral deposits from the water mains, and to exercise city water valves and hydrants to keep them operational for firefighting, water main breaks, and other emergencies.
Work will be done overnight from 10 pm to 6 am in an effort to minimize any inconvenience in the form of traffic delays or discolored water.
For those who do experience discolored water, the Public Works Department advises you to close all but one tap and let the cold water run for 10 minutes. If the water hasn’t cleared up after that, DPW says to wait half an hour and try it again. If it still hasn’t cleared up then, contact the department at 603-352-6550.
If you experience laundry staining the department says not to dry the laundry and contact the department for a special stain remover.
The following streets will be affected during the first week of flushing, however the department notes that schedule may vary depending on weather, staffing, and mechanical issues:
