It may be the first weekend of Spring but the Monadnock Region was hit with some winter weather Saturday.
Snow and freezing rain continued throughout the day as temperatures hovered in Keene just over 32°. A few scattered accidents were reported around the region early on in the day, including in Alstead shortly after 11:00 on Forest Road where a car collided head on with a plow truck. Alstead Fire and Rescue says the two occupants of the vehicle were taken to Cheshire Medical Center with unspecified injuries, while the driver of the plow was uninjured.
Eversource had a pretty quiet morning in the Monadnock Region until the afternoon and into the early evening when Fire Mutual Aid Live began reporting trees and wires down across the region. As of 6 pm Eversource Outage Map is reporting an outage that began around 4:30 in Chesterfield effecting more than 200 customers. Other outages are further east, including in towns such as Gilsum, Sullivan, Harrisville, Peterborough, and Jaffrey.
If you come across any downed power lines, do not go near them and report them to police. Anyone experiencing an outage should report it to their electric company.
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 am on Sunday. The roadways are wet and could be icy in some spots so drivers should use caution.
