KEENE, NH – The Town of Surry is among the beneficiaries of federal funding to support rural New Hampshire fire departments.
In a news release Senator Jeanne Shaheen, along with Senator Maggie Hassan, and Representatives Annie Kuster and Chris Pappas announced $722,150.45 in Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program funding that will go to departments in Errol, New Hampton, Surry, and Warren.
The program is meant to provide direct financial assistance to eligible fire departments to enhance the safety and training of firefighters and purchase needed equipment.
The Town of Surry is on tap to receive $49,963.80 for vehicle extrication equipment. The Errol fire department is receiving the biggest chunk of funding to purchase a new tanker vehicle at $585,129,52. the New Hampton Fire Department will receive just under $43,000 for firefighter turnout gear, and the Warren Fire Department will receive just over $44,000 for firefighter breathing apparatus.
The state’s federal delegation is applauding the funding.
“It’s hard to overstate how critical our Granite State firefighters are in ensuring the safety and well-being of our communities – we have a responsibility to equip them with the tools and support they need to do their jobs safely,” said Congresswoman Kuster. “I’m pleased to see these resources heading to first responders across the Second District to expand their vehicle fleets, purchase protective gear, and more.”
