KEENE, NH – A Swanzey man was arrested after failing to pull over and leading  police on a pursuit.

According to a news release from the Keene Police Department, the KPD and Cheshire County Sheriff’s office was attempting to locate Clayton Whitten, 41, for multiple open felony warrants. He was seen operating a motor vehicle in an undisclosed location in Keene and when an officer attempted to pull him over, he failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit crossed the town border into Swanzey, where a tire deflation device was successfully deployed by a Deputy Sheriff, stopping the vehicle on Route 10 where Whitten was taken into custody.

Whitten was found to be in possession of a significant amount of suspected cocaine. He’s now facing a charge of possession of a controlled drug on top of his other felony warrants. He’s being held at the Cheshire County House of Corrections and will arraigned on Tuesday.

Police didn’t provide further details including where exactly the pursuit was initiated, or what speeds Whitten reached as he was fleeing.

The incident remains under investigation, anyone with further information should call the KPD at 603-357-9820.
