KEENE, NH – The National Weather Service reported Thursday that a tornado touched down in Roxbury as thunderstorms moved across the region.

A trained weather spotter reported a funnel cloud reaching the ground with rapid rotation just before 3 p.m. according to Meteorologist Sarah Thunberg. There were no reports of injuries. The Weather Service planned to survey the area Friday morning for confirmation.

Much of New England was under severe thunderstorm watches or warnings Thursday afternoon, with flooding due to heavy rain possible across parts of Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire.

Damage was later reported in Harrisville, Dublin, and Marlborough as the storm moved quickly toward the East.

The storm caused damage on Base Hill Road in Keene. Cheshire Medical Center lost power in during the storm, but it was quickly fixed.

In Marlborough, downed trees in the area of Marlborough Auto Sales on Rt.101 forced the temporary closure of Route 101. The Marlborough Police Department was notified of a tree down.

In a Facebook post, Marlborough police said arriving units found more than a dozen trees broken off, including some that damaged unoccupied vehicles. There were no reported injuries and the road was quickly reopened with the assistance of the Marlborough Fire Department and NH Department of Transportation.
