KEENE, NH – Winchester residents have been experiencing what they describe as house-shaking explosions in town.
The most recent explosion occurred Wednesday evening around 5:30. Winchester Police Captain David Rice told WKBK that is the third time in as many weeks that these “phantom explosions” been reported, usually in the area of Center and Warwick Roads.
After Wednesday’s explosion Rice said officers spent about 20 minutes searching the area to find the source but came up empty handed. Rice said there’s a lot of wooded area which makes it more difficult.
Rice said there wasn’t any evidence that anything had blown up, and there were no fires. He said there’s been a rumor on social media saying that someone in the area has a canon, but Rice said if that’s the case he doesn’t know who it is.
Rice said he did bring the issue up at Wednesday’s selectboard meeting and asked that whoever is responsible for the explosions for whatever reason, to be more respectful of their neighbors.
