KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) With the general election just days away, Maggie Goodlander, the Democratic candidate for New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District, voiced strong concerns about the state of American democracy and the economy during an appearance today Good Morning with Dan Mitchell on WKBK Radio.
Speaking to host Dan Mitchell, Goodlander expressed her alarm over candidates who continue to reject the legitimacy of verified election results, stressing how these actions undermine the democratic process. “I believe democracy is on our ballot,” she asserted. “We have a situation right now in this country where we’ve got candidates for Congress who are refusing to accept the results of the legitimate 2020 election and refusing to commit to certifying the legitimate results of the election next Tuesday. That is such a deep and existential threat to our democracy and to our Constitution.”
On economic policy, Goodlander discussed the pressing need to update antitrust laws to address consolidation, particularly in housing, healthcare, and agriculture. “We’ve got more consolidation across our economy than ever before,” she noted. “And one of the things I believe deeply, just as I believe that no politician is above the law, I believe that no corporation is above the law.”
Turning to tax policy, Goodlander criticized former President Trump’s tax policies, arguing they disproportionately favor the wealthy and large corporations, leaving working people behind. She highlighted her commitment to a fairer tax code that would help fund Social Security and secure its future. “It is rooted in the simple idea that everyone should pay their fair share, including and especially the wealthiest in this country. That is going to help us ensure the solvency of Social Security into the future.”
Healthcare was another key issue, with Goodlander voicing her support for the Affordable Care Act (ACA). She rebuked her opponent’s stance of repealing the ACA without a viable alternative. “The idea of just burning down and repealing altogether the Affordable Care Act is a truly radical idea that has failed,” she said. “There have been 50-plus attempts to try to destroy the Affordable Care Act in federal courts around this country. I will fight with everything I’ve got to protect it and to continue to strengthen it.”
On education, Goodlander took issue with her opponent’s proposal to eliminate the Department of Education. “My opponent in this race has wholeheartedly embraced the idea that we should just eliminate the Department of Education. Just burn it right down,” she remarked. “I mean, this just couldn’t be further from a productive answer to the challenges that we face when it comes to educating the American people of all ages.”
As voters prepare to cast their ballots, Goodlander’s message emphasizes a call for unity, accountability, and reform across a range of critical issues, from economic fairness to educational access and democratic integrity.
