(MyKeeneNow) – Jean Arlene (Clark) Washer, 92, of Walpole, NH, formerly of Keene and Marlow, died at home on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, with her family by her side after a period of failing health.

She was born in Peterborough June 13, 1932, daughter of John Newcomb Clark and Bernice (Keough).

Jean grew up in Harrisville and was a 1950 graduate of Keene High School. After graduating from beauty school, she worked for Coiffure by Ethel in downtown Keene.

After the birth of her first child, Jean became a stay-at-home mom. She later returned to work, working for several area businesses, including Fairbanks Elm Street Market, WS Beauty Supply and the U.S. Post Office in Marlow.

After her marriage in 1954, Jean lived in Keene, moving to Sand Pond in Marlow with Harry in 1991. Here they created many happy Sand Pond memories with family and friends.

Jean was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, Order of the Eastern Star, Red Hat Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, Monadnock Garden Club, United Church of Christ in Keene and the First Congregational Church in Walpole.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Emerson Washer, to whom she was married for 49 years; four brothers, Ralph Clark, Russell Clark, Francis Clark, and Howard Clark; her children, Ann Looney (Paul), Judith Mathews (Gustave), Thomas Washer, and John Washer (Anja); seven grandchildren, James Mathews, William Mathews (Emily), Hillary Warren (Adam), Patrick Looney, Emelia Washer, Nadia Washer and Isla Washer; and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, George Clark of Harrisville; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 2 p.m. at First Congregational Church of Walpole, 15 Washington St.,  with a reception to follow. All are welcome. Burial will be held privately in the Island Cemetery in Harrisville.
