KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Fire crews quickly contained a residential blaze on Meadow Road Thursday morning, preventing more extensive damage and ensuring all occupants were safely accounted for.
The Keene Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 99 Meadow Road shortly after 10 a.m. Initial information indicated flames in the attic, and dispatchers also relayed that a family member had briefly gone back inside the home in an attempt to find pets.
The first engine arrived within minutes and reported smoke venting from the roofline, according to a news release from the City of Keene. Additional resources were called in as firefighters moved quickly to locate and attack the fire, which was found burning in the attic space.
Crews advanced hose lines into the home while a ladder truck opened the roof to release heat and smoke, improving conditions for those working inside, the release said. Emergency personnel also conducted a search of the house to ensure no one remained inside and to locate pets.
Officials said the fire was brought under control in just over half an hour, with damage largely confined to the attic area. Other portions of the home were affected by smoke and water.
No injuries were reported among residents or firefighters. Four people living in the home were displaced and are making temporary living arrangements.
Fire officials estimate the damage at around $25,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the city’s fire marshal. Efforts to locate the family’s pets were ongoing as of Thursday afternoon.
