ROCKINGHAM, VT(MyKeeneNow) A Connecticut father and his infant son were killed Saturday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 91, as a sudden snow squall created hazardous driving conditions.

Vermont State Police reported that Taylor Binnington, 39, of North Haven, CT, was driving northbound near mile marker 33 when his Hyundai IONIQ 5 lost control on the icy roadway and collided with the back of a stopped fuel tanker. Binnington was pronounced dead at the scene. His 4-month-old son, Parry Lake, suffered critical injuries and was flown to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, where he later died.

The child’s mother, 36-year-old Evelyn Lake, and their three-year-old son, who were also in the vehicle, survived with non-life-threatening injuries. Both were taken by ambulance to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment.

According to investigators, the crash was part of a chain reaction caused by deteriorating conditions on the highway. Several vehicles had already slid off the road or been involved in minor accidents when a 2024 Peterbilt fuel tanker came to a stop due to the congestion. Binnington’s Hyundai was unable to stop in time and crashed into the back of the truck.

The driver of the tanker, Michael Warner, 40, of Nelson, NH, was uninjured. His vehicle sustained only minor damage.

Authorities said snow and ice played a significant role in the crash, and first responders from multiple agencies, including local fire departments and emergency medical teams, were on the scene for several hours.

The investigation is ongoing.
