BRATTLEBORO, VT. (MyKeeneNow) – Local law enforcement has confirmed the identity of a man found dead in the Whetstone Brook on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred on August 24 at around 8:45 a.m., when Brattleboro police and fire departments responded to a report of a body spotted floating in the water near 2 Main St., where the Whetstone Brook passes beneath the roadway. Emergency responders arrived to find a man deceased in the water.
He was identified as Kenneth J. Murphy III, 65, of Brattleboro.
Firefighters from the Brattleboro Fire Department secured the body using a basket and removed it from the brook, allowing police to proceed with their investigation. During this time, a portion of Main Street was closed to the public for several hours.
Authorities have stated that the death is not currently considered suspicious, although the investigation remains active. Police have requested that anyone with information related to the incident contact Det. Lt. Greg Eaton at 802-257-7950.
