KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Barnes & Noble is set to open a new store in Keene’s Monadnock Marketplace, with the company’s website listing a May 2025 opening date and a grand opening event scheduled for June 18.

The bookstore will occupy 11,645 square feet in the plaza on Ash Brook Road, located between Ulta Beauty and One Stop Country Pet Supply on one side, and Five Below on the other, according to property manager Katz Properties’ website.

This marks the return of a major bookseller to the shopping center, which previously housed a Borders bookstore until its closure in 2011 following the company’s bankruptcy.

Barnes & Noble, the largest retail bookseller in the U.S., operates approximately 600 stores nationwide, according to its website. The company has recently expanded, with 60 new stores opening in 2024, part of a broader resurgence for physical bookstores.

The new Keene location will be the closest Barnes & Noble for area residents, who otherwise have to travel to stores in Manchester, Nashua, West Lebanon, or Leominster, Massachusetts.
