BRATTLEBORO, V.T. (MyKeeneNow) An apartment fire in Brattleboro displaced multiple residents after the activation of the complex’s sprinkler system led to water damage.

According to a news release from the Brattleboro Fire Department, multiple fire departments responded to a fire alarm activation at 1:42 p.m. on Saturday at 107 Elliot Street in Brattleboro, home to the Samuel Elliot Apartments.

According to the release, upon arrival, first responders found the fire isolated to a single apartment on the sixth floor of the building. The sprinkler system activated successfully, suppressing the fire in the apartment. 17 additional apartments sustained water damage due to the activation of the sprinkler system.

Two people sustained minor injuries during the incident; they were both evaluated at the scene and later transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for further evaluation.

The displaced residents are currently being assisted by the American Red Cross and the Brattleboro Housing Authority, offering support services and helping residents find temporary housing while restoration efforts take place in the apartment building. According to the release, the restoration of the damaged apartments is already underway.

At this time, the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and no determination has been made.

The Brattleboro Fire Department was assisted by the Brattleboro Police Department, the Chesterfield Fire Department, the Keene Fire Department, the Guilford Fire Department, the Putney Fire Department, the Dummerston Fire Department, the Dummerston Fire Department, the Westminster Fire Department, Cheshire County EMS and Green Mountain Power.
