BRATTLEBORO, VT (MyKeeneNow) A fire broke out in a Brookside Drive apartment Tuesday evening, prompting a multi-unit response from Brattleboro firefighters.
The blaze, which started in the bathroom of an unoccupied second-floor unit, sent smoke pouring from the seven-unit building as crews arrived around 5:25 p.m., according to a news release.
Firefighters quickly contained the flames, preventing major spread to adjoining apartments. The fire was under control just before 6:10 p.m., with no reported injuries, the release said. However, two apartments sustained moderate damage, forcing one resident to seek shelter with family.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation but is not considered suspicious. Most residents were allowed to return home after ventilation and safety checks. Officials are awaiting an inspection from the Vermont Division of Fire Safety before the affected units can be reoccupied.
