HILLSBORO, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) — A Brattleboro, Vermont man is facing multiple charges after police say he fled a traffic stop, crashed his vehicle, and was later located hiding in the woods early Friday morning.
Hillsboro police say officers attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding and illegal passing on West Main Street near Penstock Hill shortly after midnight on Dec. 13, but the driver accelerated and crashed seconds later on a sharp curve.
Police say the driver ran into the woods following the crash, prompting officers to establish a large perimeter with assistance from Antrim and Henniker police. Hillsboro Fire and Rescue responded to the scene to address the crashed vehicle and a damaged utility pole. Officers conducted an immediate search using a police K-9 and the department’s drone unit.
Just after 1 a.m., K-9 Voight located the suspect hiding underneath a large boulder in the woods off Route 9. Police identified the man as Michael Lesperance, 45, of Brattleboro. He was transported to Concord Hospital for treatment of cold exposure and a dog bite to the buttock.
Lesperance is charged with disobeying an officer, resisting arrest or detention, conduct after an accident, aggravated driving while intoxicated, driving after revocation or suspension, and multiple drug possession charges. Police say he was also found to have outstanding warrants from Hinsdale and the state of Vermont. He is being held at the Hillsborough County House of Corrections pending his court appearance.
