BRATTLEBORO, VT (MyKeeneNow) A 40-year-old Brattleboro man has been formally charged with aggravated assault and unlawful trespass following an incident at a Marlboro Road residence earlier this month.

Christopher J. Pond was arraigned Monday in Windham County Superior Court after authorities say he attacked a woman at her home during the early morning hours of Jan, 23. Court documents describe a violent encounter in which the victim was shoved, placed in a chokehold, and temporarily lost consciousness.

According to police reports, Pond allegedly returned to the residence after being asked to leave and at one point brandished a knife. Investigators noted prior incidents at the same home, including a trespass warning issued to Pond a week earlier after he was reportedly found in the victim’s bedroom.

Police were called to the scene around 4:30 a.m. by a neighbor who observed the confrontation. Responding officers detained Pond outside the home without incident. The victim and another resident assisted in removing him from the house and provided statements to law enforcement detailing the assault.

Pond was charged with a felony aggravated assault, carrying a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison or a $10,000 fine, and misdemeanor unlawful trespassing, which carries a maximum three-month jail term or $500 fine. He is being held on $50,000 bail under strict conditions that prohibit contact with the victim and others at the residence, and bar him from possessing weapons or alcohol.

The court has also imposed a 300-foot restraining order around the victim, and Pond is required to remain in the custody of a designated supervisor while the case proceeds.

Authorities say the case remains under investigation, and additional court dates are pending.
