BRATTLEBORO, VT (MyKeeneNow) A dramatic foot chase through downtown Brattleboro Thursday afternoon ended with the arrest of a local man suspected in a bank robbery that had occurred just moments earlier.

Brattleboro police were dispatched to TD Bank at 215 Main Street just before 3 p.m. following reports of a robbery. According to information later released by the department, the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Christopher A. Tate of Brattleboro, allegedly fled the scene in a vehicle.

Thanks to quick coordination and a bit of luck, a Brattleboro Resource Assistance Team (BRAT) officer on foot patrol spotted a vehicle matching the suspect description in the Preston parking lot off Flat Street. That sighting helped officers intercept the car a short time later on Elliot Street.

As police moved in, the suspect bolted from the vehicle and led officers on a pursuit through several residential and public areas, including School Street, Moore Court, and eventually toward Green Street, near Green Street School. The chase concluded when Tate was discovered hiding inside a garage in a backyard in the vicinity. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Police say a quantity of money was recovered from the garage where Tate was found. The vehicle’s three other occupants were detained, questioned, and subsequently released.

The Brattleboro Police Department noted in its press release that the Hinsdale Police Department also assisted with the stop and search of the vehicle.

Tate is being held on bail and is scheduled for arraignment in court at 1 p.m. today.

Authorities have not disclosed the amount of money stolen or whether any weapons were involved. The investigation remains ongoing.
