BRATTLEBORO, VT (MyKeeneNow) The historic Harris Hill Ski Jump in Brattleboro is set to host its annual ski jumping competition this weekend, Saturday, Feb. 15, and Sunday, Feb. 16.

Organizers Melissa Gullotti and Jason Evans joined Good Morning with Dan Mitchell on WKBK Radio last week to discuss the event’s highlights and preparations.

With more than a century of tradition, the Harris Hill competition has been a staple in the ski jumping community since its founding by Fred Harris in 1922. The event attracts top jumpers from around the country and beyond, drawing a lively crowd with its unique atmosphere, tailgating, and close-up spectator views of athletes launching off the towering jump.

This year’s competition features two marquee events: the Pepsi Challenge on Saturday and the Fred Harris Memorial Tournament on Sunday. Jumpers will compete in various classes, including the open class, where the winner becomes eligible for the coveted Winged Trophy Cup. One of the weekend’s most anticipated moments is the “target jump” competition at the end of each day, where athletes attempt to land closest to a painted target for a cash prize.

Organizers remain optimistic about the weather, with snowfall in the forecast and ongoing efforts to prepare the hill using snowmaking equipment. However, Evans noted that some of the snow guns and other equipment are aging and in need of replacement, a challenge the event hopes to address in the future.

Harris Hill isn’t the only major ski jumping event happening in the region. A competition in Lake Placid, New York, will also take place, featuring similar contests and prize opportunities.

With a long-standing history, thrilling jumps, and an enthusiastic crowd, this weekend’s Harris Hill Ski Jump promises to deliver another unforgettable chapter in Vermont’s winter sports legacy.
