PETERBOROUGH, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – Police in Peterborough are asking residents in one neighborhood to evacuate if possible or shelter in place Tuesday evening.

A notification was sent via the town’s emergency alert system shortly before 7:15 Tuesday evening asking residents in the Pineridge neighborhood, including Keenan Drive, Nichols Road, Taylor Road, Currier Ave, Tarbell Road, and the surrounding area to “vacate the area due to [an] active police emergency in the area”. Those who are unable to evacuate were asked to shelter in place.

The Town House on Grove Street was open for those who evacuated and needed a place to go, but it was closed for the night shortly after 10 p.m. Residents who were displaced were advised to stay with friends until the Keenan Drive/Nichols Road neighborhood was reopened.

Peterborough Police said there’s an active law enforcement situation on Keenan Drive.

In an update at 8:10 p.m. Tuesday evening police said that the incident is contained to the Keenan Drive neighborhood, and that residents outside of that neighborhood are not in any danger.

The shelter in place/evacuation order was lifted at about 11:45 Tuesday night as the subject was taken into custody.
